Follow Friday - Changing Reading habits

Follow Friday is a feature created by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  It's a fun blog hop where you meet other book bloggers and find people to follow.
How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.
I read SO MUCH MORE.  I'm a goal oriented person, so between being a blogger and the Goodreads challenge my reading has increased a lot.  I also think more about what I read, what worked and didn't.  For me this is one of the best things about being a blogger.  When you're in school you're forced to think about what you're reading but once your an adult you can just read however and whatever.  I like putting thought into what I read.

Another thing that has changed in the last few years is the number of audiobooks that I read. I'd listened to a few over the years.  After my grandfather died a few years ago I didn't like spending that much time with my thoughts.  I also had a job with a decent commute that required a lot of driving.  So I started listening to audiobooks and now I can't identify songs on the radio because I'd rather spend my time in stories than anywhere else.

Hopping through. I've been enjoying listening to audiobooks too. I have an Audible subscription that I love.

Nice! I never really could get into audiobooks myself. My commute is rather short, plus even when I listen to music, my mind tends to wander as I am aimlessly driving the same route. (Of course I am still paying attention to the road!) But I just could never really focus on the story when I tried listening to an audiobook.

But I definitely love reading for the enjoyment as well. For school it was always trying to answer the questions I had to answer for homework. So I wasn't reading to finish a story, I was looking for answers. The same can be said when I had to turn something I read into a paper. I am looking for the right quotes that would support whatever theory. There just wasn't any enjoyment. So glad those days are over so I can just read and enjoy the story and then gush about it on my blog! Since the great majority of what I read I give 5 stars because it was just awesome!

I've only listened to 2 audio books, both of which I got as freebies and though I would love to listen to more they're more expensive than regular books so I have to choose which ones I would really love to have.

Check your local library! That's where I get most of my audiobooks. I only buy series/narrators I absolutely love.

I've only been able to get into audiobooks when the readers are good readers. Otherwise, I lose interest and return them.

Goodreads challenges are awesome! I always want to go past my goal, and when I do, I feel so amazing.

And then I see those people with like an 850 book goal who are almost there, and then I feel incompetent.

I don't really like listening to audiobooks that much. There are some times when the voice actor will change their voice for each character and then other times when they don't. I'm someone who likes when they do the voice change, and in my experience so far it's not done often.
