Question: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?I tend to be really skeptical of books that get a lot of hype. One thing blogging has taught me is that I'm not your average YA blogger. There are lots of super popular books I haven't read because when I see descriptions like "star crossed lovers" "destined to to be together" it makes me want to stab my eyes out. That would be unfortunate since eyes are useful for reading.
But since I'm supposed to pick something, I'm going with Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. It was too slow, too mopey, the dialogue too unrealistic and it just seemed to try too hard. Too much of the book was spent with the two main characters being all lovesick and staring into each other's eyes. It reminded me of Twilight to be honest. I can be a hard-ass when it comes to paranormals, especially ones that are fairly romantic focused. They need to be excellent and this just wasn't.

I've heard some of the same things about Shiver, but I still want to read. I love paranormal romances, so I think I'll probably like it.

I actually really enjoyed Shiver, but the rest of the series was kind of terrible :) Thanks for stopping by my post! Following you!

I've seen this a couple times today, it seems Shiver is hit or miss with most people. Thankfully it was hit with me, I enjoyed it :)
I wasn't all that impressed with Linger, though.
Thanks for stopping by!

I have also heard that about Shiver. I own it so I will probably read it any way. I hope I like it. Have a great weekend!
I've been wanting to read Shiver. I haven't heard a whole lot about it but I've heard it's pretty good. I'll try to keep my expectations down while reading it so as not to be disappointed. haha
Thanks for visiting my blog!

I felt the same way about Shiver.
I saw someone else pick the same book this week. I've been hearing a lot of negative things about it so I'll probably stay away! Thanks for stopping by my FF. Followed back via GFC.

Haha yeah I chose Twilight because I'm never sure what books are popular and have lots of hype. It's insane. The only book I could think of was Twilight. I actuually liked Shiver. It wasn't my favorite and I totally agree with what you said. Very unrealistic for both series.
I really liked Shiver and if it was like Twilight then it was a lot better because I do not like Twilight.

I actually liked her Wolves of Mercy books. Thought it was an interesting spin on werewolves with the weather. Weird, but interesting. I haven't read her new stuff though. Sadly that hasn't been appealing to me.
Oh well. Shiver is one of those books people seemed to love or hate. Or somewhere in between...I guess it's like any book then!

I really love your answer! I've never read Shiver, but I've heard mixed things about it.

I totally get what you mean when you say Shiver reminds you of Twilight. I somewhat enjoyed Shiver, not nearly as much as I expected, but definitely more than the book that followed- Linger. Forever was just one I couldn't bear to read.

Although I'm a "lover" of the romantic side, Shiver was just toooooo much. I totally understand your answer... (Although I di like the first three books in the Twilight series lol)

I haven't read this one yet. I loved 'The Scorpio Races', so I'd been meaning to give this one a shot. :/ I'm picky about romances, too. If they drag or lag, then I toss them.
I can really relate! There's nothing so disappointing than in the middle of action noticing the "trying too hard" thing.
I have to disagree, I loved Shiver and Twilight. But everyone has their own opinions. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I get you..I struggled with the last two in the series but I like the first one!
Never heard about it, but I will stay away from it now. Thanks ^^

I loved Shiver and Twilight. And I think all the mooning in Twilight was more the movie than the book. In my opinion anyway. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I haven't read that series at all. Werewolf stories just aren't my thing. Besides when I did pick it up at one point, I could only go through the first chapter (or was it the prologue) and thought it was blah. :)
Aw, Shiver is...well...SOMEWHERE on my TBR list. I'm sad to hear you didn't enjoy it. Just an excuse to knock it farther down my list. ;)
I'm with you. YA novels that are nothing but pure romance stories without anything else going on... they just don't appeal to me.
I've skipped so many books that other YA bloggers rave about, because honestly, they just don't sound that fantastic to me.

I know what you mean--I'm definitely not the typical YA blogger--or even typical blogger--and 50 Shades is probably not a book for ANYone!
Shiver never really appealed to me despite the rave reviews. So I am yet to pick it up. I'm following you back, thanks for stopping by my blog:)
I haven't read that one yet. I don't like mopey either!
