Have you ever looked at a book's cover and thought, This is going to be horrible? But was instead pleasantly surprised? Show us the cover and tell us about the book.Raging Quiet is one of the most horrible juvenile covers I've ever seen. The hideous piece of art is hiding one of my favorite books that I read last year. It's a sweet and thoughtful story that I recommend to everyone. Here is my Raging Quiet Review.
There are also books that occasionally have an acceptable cover and then also a bad cover. Take Dairy Queen for example (a lovely series, highly recommended)

The first version of Dairy Queen (thank goodness not the one at my library) is horrible. She's wearing a cow print tanktop and grinning at nothing. The picture tells you nothing about the book. The second cover is cute, cheeky and befitting the story. DJ is a tomboy farm girl who worries that she's just going through the motions of life, kind of like a cow. That's where the cow with the crown comes into the picture.
Another book that I would've never read based on cover alone is Anna Dressed in Blood. Nothing is wrong with the cover, I just don't really read horror books. But my friends recommended it and I trust their taste. Speaking of poor graphic design choices (cough the above covers) the text in this novel is a reddish brown (like blood). Seriously almost put the book back down because the color hurt my eyes. If I'd been buying (not getting from the library) I would've never read it. My review of Anna Dressed in Blood
There are actually A LOT of covers that I hate but turns out I haven't read most of those books. I just can't do it. I'm also a bit of a font snob and I occasionally stumble across covers using comic sans or papyrus and cringe. Right now my pet peeve is the "Girls in Pretty Dresses" covers and I'm intentionally avoiding buying those. In YA there's too much of a tendency to repeat the same type of covers over and over without really making intelligent graphic design choices. I'm pretty fed up with the recycled covers and am drawn to unique designs.

I agree that YA tends to copy the same thing over and over. I am a new follower via Linky Followers. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Have a great friday. I really don't like the anna dressed in blood cover.
I like your choice of covers. I can't read even the summary of a book where the cover is not attracting to me. New follower :P Here's My FF
That is truly an awful cover. What goes through somebodys mind when designing it?

Agree! The cover does look weird. But I like Anna Dress in Blood book cover though.
BTW thanks for stopping by my blog!
I don't like those covers but I do want to read Anna Dressed in Blood because of the cover being pretty :)

Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog. Returning the favour - I'm a new linky follower! ^^
I actually really like the cover with the cow on it! It's so cool! Just the sort of thing I'd be drawn to if I wanted a bit of a fun read. I agree with you about the first two covers - the two girls look like some kind of bad painting and the girl in the cow-print top just doesn't work for me. I kinda like the Anna Dressed in Blood cover but then I am drawn to teen horror stories so that explains that. I'm not sure how I'd feel about reading a book with a weird coloured font, though... some of these artistic choices are just not based on reality!
It's actually a girl and a guy, so that tells you how bad the cover is.
I like the Dairy Queen cow cover well enough, its the other one that bothers me greatly.
I think the Anna Dressed in Blood cover actually looks pretty enough, it's just I would see it and write it off as "horror book yuck" in my head where it's a been of a horror/paranormal crossover really.
Thanks everyone fror stopping by!
I haven't read Anna but I agree about the cover.
As you know we share some thoughts about Dairy Queen.
Thanks for stopping by!
I am in total agreement with you on everything! The girls in prom dresses theme is tired and yes, fonts, and their color, do matter! I remember reading Shiver and thinking what is it about this book that's different? The font was blue, matching the cover. Linger and Forever also have fonts that match the cover colors. It didn't sway me one way or the other about the books, but it was a little odd at first. I also have problems with multiple POV's being in different script (often italics or such.) Glad to see I'm not the only one!
And I LOVE Dairy Queen, such an awesome little book! I agree about the "new" cover, ugh! Why mess with a good thing? The old cover is perfection!
Thanks for dropping by my FF, we seem to have similar tastes so I'm happy to have discovered your blog! New follower:)
I have seen the Dairy Queen cow cover around and while I do not care for it I find it to be kind of funny. I do however love the Anna Dressed in Blood book cover. It is very scary but odd thing is I did not like the book as much as I thought I would have.

Oh the cow print top cover. Yikes. The title going back and forth between black and white makes it even better! I do like the one with the cow though. I might even pick that one up since it's a little silly.
Thanks for coming by earlier!
Different POVs in different font bothers me too! Shouldn't the writing distinguish enough? It's like "just in case let's change the font"
Thanks to everyone for stopping by!
